5/27/13 MEMORIAL DAY 2013 IN, ON, & AROUND the USS IOWA, SAN PEDRO, CA

MEMORIAL DAY 2013
IN, ON, & AROUND
the USS IOWA,
SAN PEDRO, CA

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you , so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. "
John 13:34-35

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

"Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." 1 Corinthians 13:6-7

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

MY THIRD time at the USS IOWA...one disappointment was that I called a few days prior and the lady so sweetly told me that they had "reduced the price" for memorial day to $10...and encouraged me to come and bring others...what she failed to tell me was that the $10 offer was "online only" and had already ended...apparently only good up until a week prior to Memorial Day (according to the Latino window ticket gal who didn't seem to care less what the "white boy" in front of her had to say about the prices)...: this was the third time that my visit to the USS Iowa was slightly disapponting (the first time I decided to park on the street after pulling thru the lot but they wouldn't let me out without paying the minimum due for the ONE MINUTE it took me to drive thru the lot...later I was told the USS Iowa doesn't control the parking...that it's a separate entity but STILL...it all  reflects poorly on the USS Iowa itself...; the 2nd time I came for the Veterans Day ceremony and had been informed that visitors could attend the service on the USS Iowa without paying for the tour of the ship..and obviously without taking the tour...but when I arrived the guy thought I was trying to pull one over him...he scoffed at me..until he called his supervisor who corrected him. So you see there are communication issues, or ethical issues if it's a matter of the lady on the phone intentionally trying to get me to come to the ship knowing it would be $18 upon arrival (let's hope she just forgot that the $10 deal was over). ..once aboard the ship it was fun to tour the boat again..the fact is not much can be changed or added so once you've done the tour there's not much point in going again for a few years, but maybe they will come up with something to make it more "dynamic." And of course the ceremonies and activities nearby (various radio personalities from 870am radio...dennis prager, michael medved, and earlier a dunk tank for Brian Whitman (who is on with Ben Shapiro et al from 6-9am during the week). ..
